Debate at JDC West follows Canadian Parliamentary style, with three speakers and a note-taker on both side affirmative and side negative.
With points awarded for speech content, refutation, organization, and delivery, the debate competition tests participants’ ability to think on their feet and analyze all aspects of a business-related topic as it pertains to government, policy, society, and morality.
All debates are impromptu, and debaters have 30 minutes upon receiving their topic and side assignments to prepare a case. The battle of the wits accumulates in 42 minute rounds, leaving only the most clever teams to duke it out in the finals rounds.
Debaters present constructive material, offer rebuttals, and raise points of information that keep audiences at the edge of their seats.
